What is SMART Driving?

The SMART Driving training programme is an innovative programme that provides essential training on vehicle and roadcraft to HGV drivers.

The programme is designed to upskill drivers in areas including telematics and in-cab technologies.

The SMART Driving training programme will deliver immediate benefits to employers, drivers, and the environment.

Course Structure

The 3-day SMART Driving programme monitors drivers existing behaviours and uses this information to teach drivers techniques to improve fuel efficiency and road safety.

By improving drivers’ awareness of their driving style and how this impacts on vehicle efficiency, drivers learn skills to increase fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions.

Drivers will also learn advanced driving skills to anticipate the behaviour of less-skilled road users and recognise and respond to road conditions. Using this knowledge, drivers will learn the skills to anticipate and avoid incidents.
